The fort that took nine years to build has all the trappings of the center of Mughal government: halls of public and private audience, domed and arched marble palaces, plush private apartments, a mosque and elaborately designed gardens.
You next head to Jama Masjid that was designed by Emperor Shah Jehan and built by a workforce of 5000 between 1644 and 1656. Originally called Maszid-i-Jehanuma “mosque commanding a view of the world”.

Day 04 /  November 12, 2009:
AM visit to Amber Fort. This was the capital of the Kachwaha Rajputs from 1037 until 1728. Fortified by natural hills, high ramparts and a succession of gates along a cobbled road, Amber’s magnificent palaces are distinctly of Rajput architecture, but Mughal ideas crept in to influence the design. The practice of covering the walls with mirrored mosaics is purely Mughal, a style first seen in India at Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. Next, head to City Palace and Jantar Mantar (observatory). Sawai Jai Singh’s observatory is an exemplary showcase of Indian astronomy. The odd-shaped trapezoids, soaring brick circles and giant-sized pillar, overlaid with sherbet-yellow gypsum looking like futurist sculptures, are solidly planted in the southern courtyard of the palace complex. A total of 18 instruments were erected between 1728 and 1734 by Jai Singh, many of them his own inventions.

Lunch. Thereafter transfer to Golden Castle, Pachar, a Heritage Hotel for overnight stay.

PM visit and walk through village of Pachar savoring its frescoes, painted havelis.
